The Story Comes First
The works in this series are all inspired by the narratives that I encounter while rummaging through my collection or skimming vintage books in second-hand shops.
The River (16 x 20) - This work is painted on a travel narrative called "The Pilgrims of the Rhine" (mid 1880s? The publication date isn't clear). The section that inspired this image focuses on the Rhine Maidens.

Safe Passage Home (18 x 12) - This American Traditional swallow offers safe passage through childhood - evoked by some rather disturbing fairy tales in an A.L. Bright Story Reader (1920s).
